The Good Life... a weblog about life, technology, and the Opera Web browser

For creative writing last week,

For creative writing last week, we had to pick a random person in the classroom and answer five questions about them:

  1. What does that person want?
  2. Who do they envy? Why?
  3. List two or three of their habits. Why do they have these habits?
  4. List three objects you would associate with them. Why do you choose these objects?
  5. What is their secret?

Here's what I came up with:

She wants to be whole. She wants to belong, to find her place. She wants to feel joy, to be in love and to experience passion. She desires a kindred spirit--a best friend--that comforts and loves her. She wants to be beautiful, but is so concerned with this desire that she misses the beauty in her heart.

A woman with natural beauty is her enemy, mainly because she spends so much time despising that person that she doesn't realize her own beauty. She envies those that have found their place or their mate; those that see their future clearly. She's desperate to be free of the bonds of trying to fit in.

She gossips. She does it mostly because she's jealous of what others possess. She plays with her hair, trying to be noticed. She holds herself well--good posture, slight swing in her hips--because she desires attention. She isn't proud of her body, but she doesn't easily let on about that because of how she tries to accentuate it with her dress and adornments. She doesn't smoke and is a modest, social drinker. Her sips are short; feminine. She's flirtacious.

She collects shoes. Her favorite pair are brown leather platforms because they make her look taller, her butt firmer, and her legs leaner. Most of her shoes are platform or heals to show off her legs--she loves her legs. She has a white teddy bear that her first boyfriend gave her. She cherishes it, as she cherished him. It keeps her company while she sleeps and she holds it when she cries from the frustration of trying to be something, or someone, that she can never by, but always seeks. She drives a small SUV, which she bought because of its affordability and height. She likes to be in control and feels that way sitting tall in her vehicle.

She is a poet and romantic. She loves the Julia Roberts movies--Notting Hill, Runaway Bride, Pretty Woman, My Best Friend's Wedding, and Erin Brockovich (though for a different reason--not for the romantic comedy aspects, but for the power of the star). She writes secretly in a journal beautiful sonnets of love and romance. She longs for love and fulfillment. She hides this all because she doesn't think her friends will understand her gift and written intensity, but in doing so remains distant from everyone. She's alone.

That's all. Granted, I didn't do a good job in varying the sentence structure or using different pronouns, but it was an in class assignment and that wasn't something I had time to play with. Next time, perhaps.
