I think I know why

I think I know why so many students hate school. There's this phenomenon that occurs when your professor asks you for your homework (the homework you forgot to do because you didn't write it down, the homework you stayed up half the night trying to finish, the homework you considered doing, but decided not to in favor of doing something else more entertaining). It's this disheartening blow to your pride. It's a sinking feeling that mirrors your hopes of getting a good grade in the class.

See, sometimes students fall so far behind that it's just depressing going to class and having your professor ask you for homework you know you don't have. So, instead of working diligently to get back up to speed, students skip more classes and fall farther and farther behind. It's this whole downward spiral effect. It's quite disheartening.

It's also really hard to get out of the greedy grips of the downward spiral. I'm working on doing that this week.

Happy Thoughts

Julie Andrews sung of Favorite Things in The Sound of Music. Robin Williams flew to Happy Thoughts in Hook. These things seem such a part of our lives, yet we don't seem to specifically point them out. So, I ask this tonight (a la Hook): what is your happy thought?

Oh, you want to know mine? Memories from the relationship I had with my ex-best friend seem a good source of both pleasant (and unpleasant) thoughts. However, if I were to have to pick one source, I would have to say it's my faith. The fact that I know that I have The All-Mighty, All-Powerful God looking after me just makes things so much easier....

Good Will Hunting is really

Good Will Hunting is really a great movie if you can get past the profanity. However, one must admit that it adds to the realism. The dialogue is witty, the acting: superb.

Fearful of the repercussions of being seen with teary eyes in a van full of guys (where we were watching the movie), I did my best to hold back the water faucets that are my eyes. The movie is really touching and reminds me too much of the deep, wonderful love that my ex-best friend and I once shared. I'm reminded of that far too often these days, it seems.

Nashville, TN was fun. We

Nashville, TN was fun. We placed 13th out of 23 teams at the competition. Not bad for our first showing. Nashville is a nice place. I might put some pictures up from the trip at some point.

I did a good deal of thinking on the trip and a bit of chatting with one of my friends and confidants, Mike. The outcomes of the conversations will most likely be interspersed with the banter one might be accustomed to from me on this site. If you know me IRL, I hope you'll notice a difference as well.
