One nice feature of Movable Type is post categories: each post is separated into one or more categories, so readers can only read posts of certain categories or I can keep track of my posts better. You can't quite do that yet, but I'll try to have that done soon.
I'm having some trouble coming up with good category names. Here's what I have so far:
- Funny: comics or other funny items
- Geeky: posts about technology or other geeky things
- Meta: posts about this weblog or web site
- Personal: personal stuff, i.e. relationships, life updates, etc.
- Philosophical: posts about religion, philosophy, or anything of that ilk
- Quotes: quotes; often funny, sometimes inspirational
- Work: stuff related to my job
- World: posts related to what's happening in the world
The lines between some of these categories are pretty fuzzy. For instance, what if I have a funny quote? I wanted to keep Funny separate from Quote because I might post a quote that isn't funny or post something that's funny, but isn't a quote. See my dilemma? So, any suggestions?

You can assign more than one cattegory to enteries. As the user manual say:
"Movable Type allows you to enter a list of categories, then assign one or more categories to each of your entries."

True, but I still don't think I have good categories, even if I can use several of them at once. :)
This is just a suggestion changing one word...but looking up 'funny' in a thesaurus brought up the word 'laughable' i dunno...i think it sounds a little more exotic(?) than plain old 'funny'. but that's just me. i like the category names because they are relatively easy to follow...nothing too confusing about them
Yeah, I like Laughable. I was trying to go for some more exotic stuff, so good call.
ummm... be careful, though. laughable usually applies to things like efforts as in - ha, ha! isn't it funny that so-and-so's even trying? - as opposed to things that make one laugh. that's all from the english dork side.
from the pseudo-normal rest of me... hi! nice look, very not cluttered. our efforts to get that look here at school are, well, laughable. sorry. the squirrels kept me up last night/this morning. and yay for actual posting on a regularish basis! but that means i have to actually read on a regularish basis. anyway, i'm proud of your blog work. keep it up, and enjoy that darkness thing.
Good point, Helen. I'm finding myself using the "Personal" category for most of the posts I'm doing now. I may move some stuff from a work-related journal here (all Opera Software stuff), so that would be a category.
I'm reluctant to go through my old posts to categorize and fix them until I have the categories straight, but I can't really do that without going through the old posts. Argh.
