I've been messing with templates and stylesheets tonight. There's plenty of work to do yet, but things should be more readable and usable. I removed most of the text size restrictions, too. Unfortunately, I can't get a good look at the site for a couple of reasons. First, Opera doesn't seem to want to redownload the updated stylesheet. Second, Mozilla's download server seems to be down. Third, IE is, well, IE. I'll recheck things when I get to the office.
One problem I did notice is that the left sidebar was cut off. I tried to fix it, but couldn't tell if I did or not. Please let me know if there are problems and if you like the changes. Thanks!

Umm, I think somethings wrong, the CSS file I get is old (and still causes the page to be almost unreadable for me under Linux (maybe I should just uninstall Palatino)):
$ HEAD -P http://weblog.timaltman.com/styles-site.css

Oops. You're right. Fixed that. Looks updated now.
It's suddenly bigger. Much, much bigger. I liked it better small.
That's actually more related to the default font size you use in IE than the font size on this page. However, I've adjusted the sidebar to be one step smaller than the main page content. If it's still too big, try selecting a different font size in IE from the View > Text size menu.
well i tend to view everything in medium view...and it still looks really big on my comp. plus, my screen resolution is set at 1024x768 and it's still big. just thought i would let you know. but you're right...changing the font size fixes it, but then the size needs to be changed again when one navigates away from your blog.
I'm with Jax; medium view is standard. And it was really that one day it looked normal, and the next it was gigunda. It's so big that the first comment is the only one that appears on my screen. It's big, little brother, it's very big!
I find that IE is unbearable in "Medium" size, I always have to set it to "Smaller" to get a bearable display. But then again, all I use IE for is Windows Update anyway :)
I'm done hacking at this thing tonight. I implemented a convoluted work-around, which makes things semi-ok in IE, but messes up Opera. And the calendar is still getting over-written by the main content. Owen Briggs' site describes better than I could why this is so difficult.
aww...well, yay for trying! I think Corri and I are just going to have to deal with the "gigunda" look of it. I mean, you are working for Opera...so i would guess that's what you would most likely use to view your own blog, and if it's messing up on Opera, well, that's just not cool ;) i mean, it is your blog afterall ;) anywho, hope you're enjoying the cold...today is snowday number 4 for lynchburg city schools...i wanna go back to student teaching!
