After lots of problems with my previous attempts at reconciling the font-size differences of various browsers, I think I've found a good solution. Using IE's conditional comments, I'm telling IE to use a smaller font-size by default, which is ignored by every other browser.
In the process, I simplified the site template and style sheet, paving the way for future styling and other enhancements. My next chore is to send the correct MIME type (application/xhtml+xml) to supporting browsers.
I've also been doing a lot of reading over the past couple of days, looking for styling ideas. A List Apart has a great variety of articles about web design, several of which I'll be grabbing ideas from. The CSS Zen Garden is a great example of the power of style sheets. I'm hoping I'll find my styling muse soon.

okay, now we're back to the good text size - yay for creative ways around weird geek problems... ;) but i think you should squish your horizontal post limit (does that make sense?) so that there's no left-right scroll bar. do Jewish people (or those who read right-left) say right-left, do you think?
So, in geek terms, you'd like me to reduce the width of the main content so there's no horizontal scrollbar? :)
Oh, and I'm pretty sure Jewish people don't say . They speak Hebrew.
unless it's already been fixed, there appears to be no horizontal scrollbar. helen just needs to resize her desktop or change her screen resolution ;)
Yeah, it's highly screen resolution dependent. In other news, I've completely broken the layout of individual archive pages, so you probably won't be able to see this comment. :) Of course, I have to go to work now, so I won't be able to fix it until later today. Yay!
ack! what happened? i went to read the posts on this site and they're all on the left hand side of the screen...and you can only see the middle portion of them.
See, I knew that was going to happen. In any case, I've fixed it for the time being, though I'll probably break it again later.
whew. at least you fixed it enough so i could read your comment and jackie's and call you both big jerks. :P at least you're a clever jerk, though, tim. jax... you just hate naph, but i think you have a general aversion to computers anyway.
btw, ang and i went sledding without sleds at rockbridge, and we also decided that walking on about 6 inches of snow - yes, on - was super cool. do you have you that kinda snow/ice in norway? if you do, take supreme advantage.
We're relatively snowless at the moment, actually. And we usually walk on several inches of ice--not snow--due to mediocre sidewalk snow removal.
is this fun ice like the kind that doesn't make you fall at least twice a day, or is it the evil ice that sits in wait for your unsuspecting feet? now that we're back at school, i actually miss the snow/ice at rockbridge. i need to move to alaska. or at least toronto. do they sell flip-flops in toronto?
It is, in fact, the Evil Ice. Have you been reading my weblog, Helen? I fell a second time a week or so ago. However, two Norwegians fell near the entrance to the shopping center across the street. But they fell inside. Maybe Americans get better practice with that.
Regarding sandals, I'm sure they do. They sell them here. :)
i can feel this whole narrative leaping out of me right now... something about ice and life and how it all connects. i'm gonna go search for it before adrienne gets here. [btw, it was betsy's b-day yesterday (the 9th), so you should e-mail her or something.] i think i've been reading too much of "the boy." the subject matter, enh, but the writing is great and good for my vocabulary. and, like casey says, "My senses, they've come alive!" everyone should be required by law to watch sports night.
my posts are getting curiouser and curiouser. sorry. it's good to know that sandals are universal, though. and don't hurt yourself. or anything expensive you might happen to be carrying at the time.
The first time I fell, I had my external hard drive in my bag, which was behind me, thus fallen upon. But it's fine. :)
