dude

Congrats for you both.

Take my advice: sleep in as often as you can, go out on a lot of dates, and see lots of movies.

And start a journal, online or off. Write down stuff as it happens. It goes too fast.

(Have I mentioned that Ethan astoundingly turns 3 on Saturday?)

Thanks!

Rebekah has been keeping a journal, so I think we have that taken care of. We're doing our best to spend time together, but it's not that easy to go out a lot in Oslo.

Congrats indeed

Wasting no time :)
I hope Rebekah and you will enjoy it all!

Maybe I should start outing my own secret...

Thanks! We're listening! ;

What's the secret? ;)

Yo

Blessings on you and the little blessing, too. :-)

Thank you. :)

Thank you. :)

Awesome!

Congrats!

My sister just announced she was pregnant last week...must be something in the air or water :)

As TjL advises, be sure to catch-up on your Zzz's...you'll need them, trust me.

Rebekah was tired a lot for the first couple of months, but she has a lot more energy now. I hope we have a quiet child.. I enjoy my sleep!

Nice one :)

Having kids certainly can make time pass very fast, but it is well worth it.

Congratulations to you both, and enjoy being a family! :)

Yes, get your sleep while you can. Hard to remember those days, although I do remember missing sleep. My youngest graduates high school tonight!

Woohoo

Congratulations!

Congrats!

Sleep now, while you still can. :-)

Congratulations indeed!

I think it's a wonderful thing that has happened to you, so congratulations again! :) Nice to see so many good advices, and from what my uncle has told me, the advices about sleeping in when you can, watching movies, going on dates and all that is a good idea. The first time my uncle and aunt went on a date after they had the twins, was when they were about 15 months old, and only because a friend of theirs insisted on being a baby-sitter, and I insisted on being the designated driver :)

Oh, and my sister had her baby this morning, so I just became an uncle! :)

Congrats to you both!...Everyone's given some logical-sounding advice (I can't say that it's great advice, as I don't have a kid and wouldn't know from first-hand experience...but I can say their advice makes sense)...But I'm surprised that no one has asked when the baby is due. Perhaps that's just because other people talk to you more often than I do (I'm a bad friend, i know), but what ever the reason...I'm asking. :-) When's the baby due?

Early to mid-December. We'll know for sure when Rebekah has a sonogram in July.

Congratulations

And let me assure you that you'll enjoy your child even more than your sleep :)

I hope so. :)

now you can truly be daddy long legs...
happy babyness! so, names?

Yeah, Betsy IM'd me yesterday

Yeah, Betsy IM'd me yesterday and congratulated me. She asked if I was prepared and I mentioned that everyone at LC thought of me as a dad already. She totally agreed.

Rebekah wants to use Sara Ellen if it's a girl. Boy names are kind of up to me. I'm thinking something Norwegian. But we can't use any of the additional Norwegian alphabet characters (å, ø, and æ), as no one in the US will know how to write them. I can just imagine our poor child trying to spell his name:

"It's B-J-Ø-R-N".
"O?"
"No, Ø."
"U?"
"No, Ø!"
"You write it."

OK, that sounds funnier when I say it. Oh well.

The choice is obvious

"Junyor Jr."

You're not the first to sugge

You're not the first to suggest that. :P

Dude, it was pretty funny the

Dude, it was pretty funny the way you wrote it.

Not that I will be having children anytime in the near future, but you just reminded me of one of the downsides of you doing this first - you get the good names! If you guys go with Sara Ellen, then I can't use Sarah. Can I place a few names on hold, just in case?

I don't see why you can't use

I figured you wouldn't get the full effect without knowing the sound of each letter.

I don't see why you can't use Sarah. Rebekah and her mother both have the same first name (Ellen), so I don't see why cousins can't.

It's not that I can't, it's t

It's not that I can't, it's that I wouldn't want to if there's already a cousin with the name, and I definitely wouldn't go for the whole name recycling thing. Remember Kathy A, B, and C? It's inefficient, and it feels unoriginal too.

Or picture this (I'm using the same spelling to demonstrate how this would sound):
Me: So the girls had a great time today.
You: What did you all do?
Me: We had a picnic at the beach, and all was well until a bird pooped on Sara's head.
You: Wait, which one?
Me: Mine. So we went swimming to rinse her hair out, and then Sara got scared by a big fish.
You: Wait, which one?
Me: Yours. Anyway, she'll probably need a bath tonight.
You: Wait, I thought you said yours got the poo.
Me: I did, but you know, beach, sand, sun lotion...
You: Ok, just making sure. You know, you were right when you indicated this might someday be confusing if we both named our kids the same thing.

:)

Yes, well, I'm pretty used to

Yes, well, I'm pretty used to it consider both our mother and step-mother are named Jan. :P At least I'm not considering Helen's suggestion to name a boy Jan (it's a boy's name here).

That's true - another Jan wou

That's true - another Jan would be a true disaster. But see, this is actually the perfect example - it's very confusing, and you end up in the position of having to make up different names to call each person, which defeats the purpose of naming two kids the same thing in the first place. Remember the whole library card fiasco?

Err, no. I'm not saying it w

Err, no. I'm not saying it wouldn't be difficult, but we could handle it.

Sara(h)

Actually, it will be Sara (no "H"), after my best friend Sara. So, if you use Sarah, it won't quite be the same. And seeing as I am the sixth Ellen in my family, two Sara(h)'s won't be a problem.

Hey Rebekah - I hope all is g

Hey Rebekah - I hope all is going well with you and the little pea. Do you guys have an in utero nickname? A few of my friends who've been pregnant recently called theirs "ham bone" or "the grape." We also took to calling one of the pre-babies Lily, because we all liked the name, but then they named her Grace, which was perfect, but we used to joke about why they were calling Lily Grace. All in good fun though.

turnip-head

I don't think we've really used any inbetween names. Definitley won't be like Charlie in LOST and call him or her Turnip-Head. I go between him and her so I can pretend I'm not stuck on it being a girl. We have a sonogram appointment in July so we'll find out then.

Heh...Turnip-Head....that may

Heh...Turnip-Head....that may even top Ham Bone!

awwwwww,

dom monaghan! i was thinking the same thing, but turnip head makes for a better "description name" (as in "the smelly kid" - a description name - vs. "pigpen" - an actual name, though one i wouldn't wish on anybody) once the baby's out. my aunt & uncle (who have a daughter named grace, btw) used to call their wombed baby bazooka.

-

Oh, and I should let everyone know that Sara and Ellen are hyphenated for the first name. I am very attached to the name Ellen and don't want it getting lost in the middle, so we've agreed to combine them: Sara-Ellen. :-)

dude!

if it is a boy, you could name your kid aksel (or axel)! i think angie would vote for that 'un. you could also do jan if you wanted to completely confuse your whole family... if you were mean, you could name him odd (not joking - it means "point of a sword"). then, of course, there's viggo. and names like anders are pretty cool. (firstnamesfirst lets you look up names by country under name meanings, and i'm avoiding my tedious project at work, not to mention talking to the frustrating guys i need to talk to.)

Way to go, procrastinator! :P

Sorry to be yawning in the middle of the post title but I slept from 1 until 3:30 this morning, and again from 4 to 8..

I only have 6 months of experience, but I can say: stay optimist.. You'll sometimes think you only get less and less sleep.. Somehow you'll both manage and mysteriously learn to love the child even while you're being kept awake.

Will you have the baby in Norway or back in the US? We can share some Ullevål experience..

Asker Baerum

I'll have the baby in Norway. We have a sonogram appointment July 5th (as long as I can get back in the country - darned UDI :-O) at Asker Baerum. It's a little farther but I guess that'll end up being home.

UDI?
