And now for something almost completely different. Yesterday, March 31st, was my last day as an Opera Software employee. It's been a great six years and it saddens me that I won't be working with the great folks at Opera any longer. Opera Software truly employees some of the best and brightest developers and QA in the world and I was extremely lucky to be a part of such a talented team of individuals so early in my professional life.
Opera makes great software and deserves much more respect than it gets in the USA. The company has many obstacles to overcome in order to increase their desktop market share in the USA and I hope that they rise to the challenge. I will be watching and contributing as I can to the effort and I encourage all Opera fans to do the same.
What's next for me? On Sunday, my wife, daughter, and I arrived in Cupertino, CA where I'll be working for a certain consumer-oriented hardware and software maker. How do you like them Apples?

Happy April Fools Day!
Re: Fruitful New Endeavors
To you, too! Note that legitimate announcements are still made on April Fool's Day.
Re: Fruitful New Endeavors
Rock on Tim! Glad to hear that you're off to bigger things ... now, any chance that those folks in Cupertino need some beta testers too? ;)
Re: Fruitful New Endeavors
I'll let you know. :)
Re: Fruitful New Endeavors
Good luck in Cupertino, I love them Apples and hope you'll be happy taking care of them :)
Give my best to Rebekah and Sara Ellen!
Re: Fruitful New Endeavors
Congrats with new job! New place for living is always fun, otherwise you just a tourist there. I feel that I'm native in Kiev (Ukraine), New York and Washington DC (USA).
BTW, who will write "no build this week" from now on? :)
Re: Fruitful New Endeavors
Thank you!
If there isn't a build by ~5pm Oslo time on Thursday, it's highly unlikely there will be one.
Re: Fruitful New Endeavors
Just stumbled across your blog today and learned that you left Opera a month ago after working there six years. (I also learned that Opera had an office in the Bay Area!)
I wanted to wish you the best of luck, and to thank you for your hard work and contributions to Opera over the years. My experience with Opera started (I think) back around 1994 or 1995; the browser fit on a floppy and worked on Windows 3.11. It has been my primary browser all this time, and I was always proud to pay for the upgrades whenever they were released. And along the way, I've gotten a few people hooked. ;c)
Anyway, this was an opportunity to let you know that there are loyal users that appreciate your and your former colleagues' work.
May you and your family continue to enjoy California's diverse and unique offerings (and even those pesky earthquakes) as well as success in your pursuits. FWIW, you really need to check out the Sequoias in Kings Canyon during the summer and also Hearst Castle. Both are unique treasures that must be experienced in person.
Cheers,
Robert~
